2007 Season

Join archaeologists and geographers searching the fields and tropical forests of eastern Honduras

for the remains of lost civilizations! 

Fieldwork will involve archaeological site detection and registration through archival research, analysis of remote sensing imagery, interviews with local residents and property owners, and pedestrian survey. You will have the opportunity to learn methods for developing field sketch maps using a compass and tape or pace procedure, map archaeological features using a laser total station, record geographical positions with Global Positioning Systems (G.P.S) data recorders, identify and classify the archaeological remains of architectural components and structures. Fieldwork will include excavation of major prehistoric sites near Juticalpa, Honduras and recovery of archaeological materials. A laboratory component will provide exposure to cataloging and analysis of recovered archaeological materials including ceramics, lithics, plant and animal remains.
