The Precolumbian archaeology and geography of Eastern Honduras project seeks to identify the types of prehistoric societies that existed in eastern Honduras and represents an initial step toward understanding how these marginal settlements to Mesoamerica were able to maintain a degree of autonomy and sociopolitical structure while participating in the formation of interaction spheres that apparently contributed to the development and expansion of complex New World civilizations.
